Last night was a good night.  We had very few trick-or-treaters this year.  I think the numbers dwindle each year and that disappoints me.  However, if that’s because they’re switching to safer methods and staying inside at parties then I suppose that’s better.  Our jack-o-lanterns looked pretty cool all lit up.  The pics really don’t do them any justice.

This morning I got up and made the starter & biga for bread that I’ll bake tomorrow.  After I get back from the market this morning I’ll bake up a vanilla pound cake and massurate some figs in aged balsamic vinegar and brown sugar for tonight’s dessert.  There’s a mass this afternoon for Grandpa, the 10th anniversary of his death, and Sarah and I are staying behind to cook dinner.  As usual, celebrating life (and death) with food.  We’ll be roasting up pork with apples and onions and garlic, mashing potatoes and rutabegas.  Auntie Rie is making applesauce.  I’ve got chocolate chip cookies all ready too.  Uncle Bob is bringing the wine.  I think we’ll have a fine feast.  Ooh, I think it’s time for breakfast because all of a sudden I’m damned hungry.
