The weather outside

So today is pretty messy.  Every time I look outside I swear it’s doing something different.  One minute it’s raining, then sleeting, then snowing huge chunks, then sleeting sideways.  I don’t mind snow so much, but I’m not big on this slick and messy stuff.  I’m working from home today.  My class at STCC tonight is cancelled since they closed the college for the day.
Ooh, last night for dinner I copied my sister’s yummy sounding recipe and made some ricotta and spinach tortellini with sausage medallions, onions, garlic, roasted red peppers, spinach and baby bellas in olive oil.  We had butternut squash on the side and ciabatta bread dipped in oil with chopped garlic.  It was very good.
While we were cooking and setting the table my neighbor Myrna came over and took me up on my offer to make cupcakes for her daughter’s baby shower this Saturday.  She’s already having a white cake made in the shape of a rubber ducky so I’m making chocolate cupcakes with water blue icing and rubber ducks on top.  The shower is for men and women and she said it will be much like a jack-and-jill with food and alcohol.  Ha-ha, now Chris has to come with me which I’m kind of glad for since the only people that I will know there are my neighbors.  I think that it will be a fun time.  Today would be a perfect day to be baking those cupcakes too, but I don’t have any baking papers.  I’ll have to venture out in the next day or two and see if I can get some with rubber duckies on them (the theme of the shower).
So after dinner last night I alternated between washing the dishes, making frosting ducks for the cupcakes (they have to harden for a number of hours before they can be touched) and covering foods in chocolate.  Chris had gotten a jar of Ghirardelli chocolate chips for xmas and I melted them down and coated strawberries, pretzel rods, raw cashews, and organic espresso beans in it.  I stuck the strawberries in the fridge and they were Chris’ VD gift this morning.
Our cousin Shanna is back at home.  She was finally released from St. Francis on Monday.  I spoke with her yesterday and she sounded so much better, more like herself.  Now another five weeks of recovery at home and then she will begin some radiation treatment.
In other news, baby Johnson is due to enter our atmosphere sometime in the next 24 hours.  Of course, that doesn’t mean she will.  Maybe she really likes it where it’s warm and someone else eats for her and breathes for her and she’ll try to stay in a little longer.  I mean, who really wants to get their bum wiped with a cold cloth unless/until they have to?
I placed an order yesterday with a supplier for some cake fillings.  These are fruit fillings and some cream fillings that can be put in between cake layers instead of frosting.  Some suggestions are chocolate cake with raspberry or white cake with strawberry.  I ordered strawberry, cherry, red raspberry, apricot and blueberry fruit fillings, and a Bavarian cream.  I figure I’ll fill the next few cakes that I make and get a feel for the taste of these and see if I (and others) like them.
A very happy VD to all.  Drive safely if you must be out and about today.

  1. Heard your VD spit shine was interrupted. hahahahah

  2. How in the world can you follow after a comment like that?
Baby Johnson seems to be enjoying her stay at Sue’s womb. Today is the day and nothing is happening yet. Maybe we’ll find out more when she gets back from her doctor’s appointment.

  3. You don’t even understand. If there’s an inopportune time to call my house, my father will find it. Of course, because he’s calling at 7:00a.m. I am concerned that something is wrong (especially with the weather being as it is) so I answer the phone (even though I was having my valentine’s spit shine as Ger calls it). He’s just calling to wish me a happy vd and tell me that he loves me.
And tell your wife she’d better not overcook that roast, er baby….

  4. She wants to be done with being pregnant more than anybody else. We’re already wondering if she is too big to get out right now. The doctor told us point blank, “You can’t have a big baby. Anything larger than 9lb. is too big for you.” If you see and feel the size of her belly you would think there is a Thanksgiving turkey in there. Even the midwife she saw yesterday day commented that it was a big baby. Of course I get blamed for it. Big genes and all.

  5. who is awake at 0700? assuming god hates you and you happen to be awake, who gets a spit shine at that hour? i think if my woman wanted a spit shine at that hour there might be the distinct possibility of death by asphyxiation due to involuntary inter oral sex narcolepsy. i’m about as helpless as a naked mole rat at high noon at 0700. and you don’t want a naked mole rat giving you a spit shine, i mean, look at those teeth.
    where was i?
oh yeah. and who calls at 0700 when it isn’t an emergency? What the fuck is this shit? Who the fuck are you, lady? Why the fuck did you hug my head? What the fuck is this, The Piano? Why ain’t this broad talking? Has everyone gone fuckin’ nuts? What the fuck happened to that guy’s head? [God kisses him on the cheek. zee faints]
